Even though officials do the best they can to police football games, cheap shots are a part of the sport, and sometimes players manage to get away with them — without punishment.
It doesn’t matter what level of football — whether it’s high school, collegiate or pro — players’ emotions sometimes get the best of them, and those emotions can dictate their actions.
That’s what happened at the end of a play in Saturday night’s Northern Illinois-San Diego State game. Aztecs running back Rashaad Penny was on the ground at the bottom of a pile, when Huskies linebacker Antonio Jones-Davis reached into his facemask and poked the senior right in the eye.
Penny left the field for a brief spell, but eventually returned to the game. As for Jones-Davis, no penalty was called on the play. We can bet the NCAA will take a look at it, though, so we’ll see what transpires.
